Wild neighbours and changing skies

From bees and garden birds to visiting pheasants, squirrels and dragonflies, the grounds are alive with small moments worth noticing.

Life around the lodge

Regular visitors and tiny surprises

The paddock, meadow and mature trees create a home for an extraordinary variety of wildlife. Every season brings something different, and there is nearly always something to spot from the lodge or while wandering the grounds.

Birdlife overhead

Robins, pheasants, swallows and house martins are regular visitors. Barn owls, little owls, buzzards, sparrowhawks and the occasional red kite can also be seen nearby.

Smaller residents

Dragonflies, butterflies, bumblebees, honey bees, lizards, grasshoppers, frogs, newts and other tiny neighbours make their homes around the gardens.

Meet the Brahmas

Our friendly Brahma chickens live in a run in front of the lodge. Guests are welcome to say hello and use the corn we leave out for them.

A landscape for pollinators

Bees, buttercups and wildflowers

Beekeeping is part of the story behind Honey Bee Lodge. The hives sit among lavender, buttercups and meadow flowers, where honey bees share the grounds with bumblebees, butterflies and many other pollinators.

We let parts of the paddock grow wilder through the season, creating food and shelter while giving guests a more colourful, ever-changing view.
